National Day Parade 2007: The Fun Pack
Dominic gave me an NDP2007 fun pack yesterday night, which made me very geekily excited.
National Day's a little like Christmas, in that sense: I don't think I'll ever get tired of the festivities that surround NDP, no matter how old I get. There are some of my friends who are jaded and cynical about the whole thing, but you know what? I don't care: NDP's fun, and patriotism MUST be separated from nationalism and the government. Kit Chan got it right that first time: this is home.
The pack I got in 1997 was fun and functional, and this year's pack is no different: packed with 28 items made of the usual stuff: food (Newater, Yeo's drinks, chips, cashew nuts, sweets), hygiene stuff (tissue paper, moist towelette), and novelty items (hand-held fan, light-up star, temporary tatoos, flag on a pole, and other miscellaneous brochures).
The pack itself is one of those Assemly (R) Bags which are assembled with strips of cloth that have zips at the side, and is infinitely expandable, lengthwise.
My favourite item in recent years is the "made in Singapore" tattoo. It's a really clever comment on the fact that (1) a lot of us are literally made in Singapore (wink wink, nudge nudge), and (2) that our most prized national asset is human capital (among other things lah.) Last year, some kids in church were running around with the temporary tattoo on their arms (or faces), and it was so adorable I wanted to die.
Yay! I have an NDP2007 "US-prison-garb" orange bag (according to Ron)!Libellés : singapore
