California, Here I Come *
When I first started playing the guitar, I told myself that I would take it slow and not jump the gun on things. No developing aspirations to be the next Slash or Sting or any other great guitarist whose names started with the letter S (but I made an exception for Sheryl.) As a result, I made one of those funny rules that we sometimes make to ourselves, that I wouldn't take a peep at the Eagle's seminal guitar song, Hotel California, till I felt I could passibly handle the type of picking required for that sort of thing (passibly = picking at 1% of the actual speed required). Today, I felt bold and callused enough to look at it.
Bad move, of course.
The crazy song requires not one, not two, but THREE guitars, one of which is a twelve string! That's... that's... insane! But sounding beautifully insane. I will never get to that level, never. Ever. I look at the tab and I want to throw my guitar away and burn it as firewood.
