What does it take to get a legal VCD around here?
I've been working steadily towards owning a copy of the Out Of Sight DVD for the better part of this year, and I keep coming up with nothing. Nada. Zero. Kosong. I've been to both HMVs, to Tower Records, to some Sembawangs and some Gramaphones, but nothing. Everyone keeps pointing me towards the VCD rack, but I don't want no stinkin' VCD, I love this show, and I want it on DVD. But I succumbed anyway, because I just wanted to watch it, and bought the VCD on Thursday.
Boy, was that a $16.90 mistake. It was snipped beyond belief - scenes which made it onto Channel i didn't make it onto the VCD - what was that about? Not to mention that the beginning of the VCD had some really cheesy "XYZ Video" clip at the beginning, which leads me to believe that despite the official-looking green holographic sticker, the VCD is a dud from a certain prudish country up north. I know that all the green sticker means is that the show has passed the board of film censors, and is therefore allowed to be sold here, but the article I read also made sure to clarify that it was NOT a seal of authenticity.
So here I am, without the full version of the movie that I want to watch, and on VCD to boot. I've decided to give up the search, and do an Amazon instead, so if anyone is buying anything from Amazon anytime, leave me a message/ call me/ email me please.
What I want to know is how these illegal VCDs are being transported in (and in broad daylight too!), if the authorities are aware of the situation, and what are they doing about it?
"We anticipate that DVDs will soon take over VCDs in about half a year's time, so in the meantime we are sitting at the coffeeshop watching The Incredib... I mean, watching Channel i."
