The Country Music Television awards just called it, and I'm happy to say that Alison Krauss and Robert Plant got some nods her way - whole load of simple but awesome swinging bluegrass here.
I'm also happy to report that I called it first - Taylor Swift (completely hot blonde) won best video of the year for "Our Song". It's a great song - completely happy-happy and so teenage wholesome goodness that it should make you vomit... but it really doesn't.
Video collaboration of the year went to the unlikely pairing between Jon Bon Jovi and LeAnn Rimes (looking very much older than when Piper was dancing on the bartops at Coyote Ugly - actually, she looks strangely like Diane Lane in the MTV), for Till We Ain't Strangers Anymore.
Group Video went to the completely overlooked Rascal Flatts - who usually rock, but to be honest, the MTV wasn't too impressive. There was no plot, no story to the MTV - a helicopter breaking up a beach party (which looked more like an alien abduction party, to be honest with you), this guy gets into a car with a pretty girl he was eyeing, and they drive off into the country, park by a pictureque lake or tree, and go walking hand-in-hand. Oh, and the sun comes up, and we see that the "party" is actually at the edge of a cliff. The couple kisses (with so many close-ups of her flat stomach it would give anyone the strong urge to become anorexic) and then the sound of helicopters again, and then - we're back to the point of time where the girl picks the guy up at the party? Whaaaaaa...?
And the song was rather meh as well. Guess you can't win them all.
3x10 - Man in the Mud. Murder-lite, relationship heavy. I'm glad to see John Francis Daly get more screen time - all the more props to him because he was part of the Freaks and Geeks crew (always a massive plus).
I'm also wondering (amid figuring out what George Clooney's appeal actually is) what it is about FBI agents on screen that makes them so hot? See Keanu's Jack Traven (Speed), Fox Mulder, and now, of course, Seeley Booth (stupid names seem to rule the latter two characters.) I'm sure FBI agents aren't as hot in real life. But hey, even if you want to just compare on-screen representations of the Bureau vs some other investigative team like, say the CIA, the Agency just doesn't come off as well - look at the mess that Alias descended into. In the end, Michael Vaughn wasn't even named Vaughn (instead, he had some poncy French name, Andre.)
Okay, moving away from the rant. Recap - Bones is back, and now I have three cute guys to entertain me on one show. Talk about a one-stop entertainment centre. Gripe - why is the girl always doing the dirty work with the autopsies or the digging or the icky stuff? I appreciate letting the guy stay clean and looking like he smells nice, but it would also be nice to see some muscle. Anytime next week would be nice.

While the spirit of the games might be sportsmanship, the Beijing 2008 games looks set to be one of the most politically-charged events in the event's history.
Even before bidding started, rumours of China's possible participation already stirred much controversy, which only escalated once the the country won the bid to host the Olympic Games this year. Today, with China's heavy-handed reactions towards Tibet, and its support of Sudan, many playmakers are lobbying their heads of states to avoid attending the games' opening ceremony.
This is going to play out over the next couple of days, without a resolution till the last minute. While I guess at who's coming and who's not, it's such a pity that the games can't be just that - games. It's bad enough with the dope-testing and the unsportsman-like behaviour from the athletes themselves, but having this as yet another political minefield is the double-glazing on the curry-puff: too much effort for something that doesn't really amount to much, in the grander scale of things.
